Aurora Infrastructure has successfully completed electrification, back-up power and flexibility assets to Nokia’s new Oulu campus

Key customer benefits

Overview

Nokia’s new Oulu campus is one of the world’s largest and most advanced radio technology R&D and test production facilities. Nokia selected Aurora Infrastructure to finance, design, build, own, operate and maintain the complete electrification infrastructure – with no capital expenditure required from the customer. The system includes high voltage grid connection, main transformers, switchgear, medium voltage distribution systems, distribution transformers, back-up power and flexibility capability. Aurora guarantees 100% availability of power to Nokia’s campus at all times – even if the regional grid would fail.

The flexibility assets have been successfully traded on the reserve and ancillary markets since March 2025. The partnership with Nokia continues under long term agreements, covering leasing of the assets to Nokia and operation and maintenance of the complete electrical infrastructure with competitive and predictable operating costs. Moreover, Aurora’s model frees up financial and human resources for Nokia’s core business.

This project strengthens Aurora’s position as a Nordic leader for finance-build-own-operate of electrical infrastructure.

Outcome

For Nokia, benefits from partnering with Aurora extend beyond 100 % power availability. Nokia can rely on a future-proof electricity infrastructure, with built-in flexibility and and scalability for future needs. Participating in the flexibility market, generates direct income to Nokia, and supports the wider regional electricity system. The Oulu Smart Campus supports Nokia’s significant business and sustainability commitments. Furthermore, with Aurora financing and executing the complete investment, Nokia can free up financial and human resources to their core business.
