Pessimists sound clever, optimists change the world

Jukka Ruusunen is a living legend of the Finnish energy industry. When he speaks, people listen carefully. So did all of us that participated in Aurora Infrastructure’s after work event on the 11.11.2025.

With decades of experience in building and operating the Finnish national grid Jukka has seen that change is possible. The Finnish energy system is very different today, than it was 10 years ago. Renewable energy, namely wind, has proven the pessimists wrong. The deployment, once seen as expensive and impossible, has turned out to be affordable and doable. Emissions are down by 80% and the national grid is in a great shape to enable further steps towards industrial green transition and electrification.

Jukka’s message was clear: Change is not easy, but it is doable if we look at the opportunities ahead and let go of the solutions of the past. This is where we can help.

The future is electric

The speed of change is not slowing down. Finland’s electricity consumption is estimated to grow by 100% during the next 10 years. The growth will be driven partly by electrifying existing industrial processes and partly by the emergence of new data and hydrogen industries. Doubling the energy system will require collaboration and innovation in the system and component levels.

The electric future calls for more renewable production, namely wind and solar, but also investments in flexibility. It is not about a single technology, but rather a combination of different solutions that create system-level resilience through intelligent and optimized operations. Developing and operating the system of systems calls for technology innovation, but above all, integration capability and ability to re-think the business model. That’s what we at Aurora Infrastructure are good at. Together with our customers we have looked at finding ways to outsource and finance parts of their systems and helped them to speed up their transition towards sustainable future.
