Committed 24/7 and 365
When visiting Oulu, Nokia’s new campus is worth a visit. It showcases commitment and investment in Finland. “Home of Radio” as the site is called, is now located in a new building designed by award winning ALA architects. It is a place where Nokians from Oulu and all over the world meet customers and partners to innovate, design and manufacture solutions that connect the world. Aurora Infrastructure’s job is to make sure that the site is powered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year.
Achieving 100% availability
In the Western World electricity is expected to be available. For households, short breaks are acceptable, but for critical operations, research and development activities electricity infrastructure is designed and built for 100% power availability. Achieving this ambitious target calls for understanding customers’ needs and designing and building the infrastructure to meet those needs.
When the Oulu site was inaugurated in September by President Alexander Stubb, we at Aurora Infrastructure were proudly listening. We know that behind the scenes we are part of Nokia’s operations – and literally powering innovation for our part.
Predictability and resilience
The facts speak for themselves: The Oulu campus high and medium voltage electrification and backup power was implemented by Aurora Infrastructure with no capital expenditure for Nokia. Our way of working has proved efficient: Having one interface during design and build phases ensured project completion on time, at budget and above expectations. Furthermore, having the same partner for operations guarantees competitive and predictable operating costs.
The Oulu campus is critical for Nokia’s own operations. The backup power assets owned by Aurora are traded on the Fingrid flexibility markets. These assets improve the local and regional resilience, while generating significant additional income to our customer. Furthermore, the site’s modern infrastructure contributes to Nokia´s plan to reduce CO2 emissions by 50% by 2030 both in its own operations and value chain.
Automation and partnerships for customer success
The Nokia site is the latest addition to Aurora Infrastructure’s portfolio. As a greenfield site, it hosts modern technology and is highly automated. From operations perspective its success rests on strategic partnerships. Our people and our partners that work side by side share the same objectives of high availability, reliability and customer success.
If you are developing a project where availability and reliability of electricity infrastructure is key, please get in touch with us. With experience of green field customers like Nokia, we can help design, finance, build, own and operate industrial infrastructure. Our way of working can free up CAPEX and enable project completion on time and at budget. Got interested? If yes, let’s talk!
